This program provides an undergraduate or exceptional high school student with on-the-job training and experience in working in a nonprofit arts organization. The selected student is expected to develop a deeper understanding of the work involved in nonprofit arts administration, to better understand the role of the arts in a community, and to develop "real life" business skills that can be put to use in a future career. The internship program is partially funded by a generous grant from the New Alliance Foundation, and enables Chestnut Hill Concerts (CHC) to contribute to the development of future arts leaders.

Chestnut Hill Concerts will choose one intern candidate for an 8-week program (approximately July 9 to August 31) during which the intern will be expected to work approximately 80 hours. The intern will be mentored by and report to Vincent Oneppo, Chestnut Hill Concerts’ managing director and retired director of the Concert and Press Office of the Yale School of Music.The individual will work directly with the Managing Director, and will learn about various aspects of concert management, such as marketing, public relations, advertising, development, artist services and contracting, governance, and box office procedures.

The intern will provide support in specific areas, such as:

• maintaining CHC’s database of patrons, advertisers, and ticket buyers
• tabulating and analyzing marketing data, including audience survey results
•providing artist services
• assisting with various publicity and public relations efforts, including the distribution of flyers and posters
• working with the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center’s box office staff on specific patron seating requests
• monitoring CHC’s voice mail and responding to patron calls
•developing activities for and promoting the Kids & Teens Come Free! and Community Ticketing programs
• maintaining the CHC website and adding content (to the extent that the intern’s skills allow)

To be eligible for the internship, the student must be:

  • • enrolled in an undergraduate program (with preference to those majoring in an arts discipline, communication, journalism, marketing, or nonprofit management) OR
    a high school student entering in his or her senior year with a demonstrated interest in the arts. All applicants will be required to provide a written recommendation by a faculty member.
  • • academically in good standing;
  • • able to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • • proficient in basic, common computer programs such as word processing;
  • • a resident of greater New Haven, with preference given to those familiar with the shoreline (although they may attend a college or university out of state).
  • • In addition, the intern must have access to a computer connected to the internet.
